My husband and I took Robin's HypnoBirthing classes, then because she made us feel safe and confident, we also asked her to be our doula. After taking a few classes, I realized I was in control of my birthing experience, to some extent. It was very empowering! I learned that fear and stress creates more fear and stress. I also learned relaxation techniques that I am able to incorporate into my everyday life, not just during pregnancy and birth. My labor and delivery was not technically ideal but Robin was there to remind me that I was doing all I could do for my baby. I remained calm and relaxed during a very scary and painful experience. I ended up having an emergency cesarean, but I was able to push the horrible thoughts of losing my baby away and focus on staying as calm as possible to keep my baby relaxed. I don't think I could have done that without the practice I learned through hypnobirthing and Robin's guidance. Now I have a healthy, beautiful baby boy! She even helped me with breastfeeding and coping with postpartum depression. I highly recommend her services. 😀 P.S. She's also an incredibly sweet and genuine person!Dana Zikis
I was pregnant with my first child when I learned about Hypnobirthing classes. Honestly, it sounded like some fad, but a friend of mine- whose opinion I value- had taken the class and highly recommended it. The way she described the class and successful, non-medicated birth spiked my interest; I, too, wanted a natural, non-medicated birth. So after contacting Robin, I talked to my husband, and we decided we'd invest in the class. Robin was easy to get along with, totally honest and fun. The Hypnobirthing class armed us with the knowledge and tools we needed for a successful birth. Our baby came for weeks early, and we were able to give birth naturally-- no medications. Hypnobirthing gave me the confidence I needed. Because I believed in myself and my body's ability to carry and deliver a life, I was able to do it. I will never be able to thank Robin enough; we are forever grateful! I know the class played one of the primary roles in our birth story. It was completely worth it!Cynthia
My husband and I took Robin's hypnobirthing class together and we are so happy that we took this class! We both felt prepared for labor and it helped to decrease our anxiety and stress associated with all of the unknowns that come along with it. This class teaches you about various topics, from breathing and visualization exercises to the process of being admitted to Labor and Delivery. My husband is non-medical and really felt more confident with his role and what to expect. I am an OBGYN physician and Robin explained everything in a very thorough, clear manner. She went into details which I would not have told my husband, and he was so happy and felt more confident as my teammate. Labor has so many unknowns and Robin's class helps to prepare you to handle these unknowns. She is knowledgeable and very personable. I ended up needing to be induced over the span of three days, and my husband did great and I used a lot of the breathing and visualization techniques to help with my labor. The health care providers loved my room because it smelled so nice (lavendar oils) and we had nice soothing music and LED candles-- which were things that Robin mentioned in order to help make our labor experience more comfortable. Thank you Robin, and we definitely recommend this class to everyone-- non-medical and medical alike!Lilja Sturludottir Stefansson, M.D.
I found Robin’s Hypnobirthing class to be very helpful in understanding the birthing process. Robin is clearly very knowledgeable in this area and inspired confidence. Her class furthered my belief in trusting my body’s ability to do what it needed to do to have my baby. When my spouse and I had to suddenly switch midwife practices due to insurance reasons, we enlisted Robin to be our doula to have some continuity of care and to know that someone would be on our side to advocate for us if need be. Having her to text and call throughout the labor process was very reassuring. It was comforting to be able to let her know what I was experiencing and for her to text me back about what was likely happening and suggesting next steps. I doubt highly I would have gotten such communication from an ob/gyn. Robin was with us at the hospital and gave us guidance during the time right after the birth of our baby. Everyone could benefit from an advocate/guide as they navigate the birth experience and Robin is a great choice to be that person.Sara
I had delivered my first son vaginally and drug free when I was 19 years old when I was really tough and determined...so I figured it would be a breeze for my second son (15 years later)…it wasn’t - I was unprepared to say the least and ended up conceding to an epidural (something I had NEVER planned on doing for several reasons) I never got it thank God because I had refused an IV line. But the nurse said she’d “give me something to help me relax…” Stadol….it ruined my son’s birth!! I could barely hold up my head when he was born and he was absolutely lifeless…it was terrible. He was fine thank goodness but I swore that would never happen again! That is how I found Robin. After I found out I was pregnant with my little girl I started looking for the right birthing class. But I didn’t just want some breathing exercises…I wanted a birth experience. I wasn’t sure yet how to get that…I live in a small town that is not very “progressive.” But I finally stumbled upon something called “Hypnobirthing” online and it sounded like exactly what I wanted. I left messages with birthing websites from all over trying to find out more about Hypnobirthing when finally someone suggested I contact Robin Ross. She got back to me right away. She suggested I take her Hypnobirthing class in Bolingbrook which was only a 40 minute drive from me. She even gave me a discount and let me do a payment plan because money was tight for us at the time. The more I learned about Hypnobirthing, the more I knew it was for me! I had always believed in the power of the human body. I knew that so many women throughout the world and throughout time had given birth naturally…it baffled me why women today could not. My daughter was born in about 6 hours total. There was one thing I still struggled with a little and that was “pushing.” Even though my OB/GYN was very supportive of my using Hypnobirthing..it is not something that anyone else in her practice had done. So when she told me to push…I did and it was a little rough in the end because I don’t think (in hindsight) she was properly positioned. It was still an amazing birth and I was so pleased. One year later I found out I was having TWINS! All of a sudden everyone was talking about C-sections and operating rooms and epidurals and 38 week delivery! I was so overwhelmed. I really felt deep down that I could and SHOULD be allowed to deliver my twins naturally. I made an appointment to see Robin as soon as possible. Because we (my husband and I) had already taken her class, Robin agreed to have a one-night “brush up” class with us. This time after the overview she focused on any questions I had. Robin assured me that twins could definitely be born naturally, and helped me work through all the obstacles I might face. She especially focused on “pushing” as I had really wanted to know more about not pushing, and letting my body do the pushing as was mentioned in the Hypnobirthing book. After countless conversations and convincing with my group of doctors and some work (using Robin’s tips) to get both babies head down..I came to 38 weeks and 4 days…. Let me just reiterate that my OBs office thought I was a tad crazy and still expected that I would end up with a C-section - in fact I’m pretty sure that is what they wanted. I did however have the whole office buzzing with my hypnobirthing stories and spinning babies stories and constant talk of “having these babies naturally!” LOL. So as you may know..when having twins..there are lots of ultrasounds (which I never minded :)) and lots of “stress tests” to make sure both babies are doing fine. So I was 38 weeks and 4 days (coming up on the infamous 39 weeks…) I was at the hospital getting my regular ultrasound and stress test…I was really nervous because my docs were already pushing to induce because of the “dreaded 39 weeks” and it wasn’t looking good because baby A failed to “move enough” during the ultrasound. They sent me to a room for monitoring which didn’t go much better. Then my doc came in to tell me they were keeping me….I was devastated!!! I was in tears by the time my husband got to the hospital. We begged the drs to give me some time to work on going into labor on my own before inducing me. They agreed to admit me but to give me time since I was having some strong surges even though they were not consistent. I had already been doing all sorts of things to help me go into labor for the past couple weeks knowing that my docs would not budge on the “39 week induction.” I had used herbs and hip adjustments and pressure points and raspberry leaf tea, etc. Anyway, I made my husband bring my diffuser and my Clary Sage essential oil to the hospital and my hypnobirthing app was ready…I was relaxed and the Clary Sage was doing its thing. My contractions ACTUALLY started coming at regular intervals!!!!! I couldn’t believe it! It was like my own little miracle!!!! Nobody could believe it. The nurses, who were already interested in what was going on in my room due to my birth plan (which is rare at our small hometown hospital) and my diffuser with the lovely smell coming from it and my soothing hypobirthing prompts playing, were ecstatic. From the time my surges became strong to the time I delivered my son Kane (baby A) was about 2 hours. Baby B, Vivien was delivered 12 minutes later (after one of the docs pushed her hand back up). I was in the OR (standard protocol) but they let me stay in my regular bed and even let me squat. …and this time I DIDN’T push!!! Instead I breathed through the surges until my body literally pushed each baby out!!!! Both babies latched on immediately after their birth. They were alert and drug free and perfect! My husband walked and I was wheeled back into our birthing suite from the OR -My husband holding one baby and I was holding the other. I had FINALLY had my perfect birth story!!!!! I also wanted to mention that the nurses and staff who took care of me were amazing and supportive and so exhilarated by the whole thing that I swear most of the town heard about it! Some of them actually thanked ME for letting them be a part of it!. I owe it all Hypnobirthing and to Robin!!!Karissa
